Date: 2026-03-29 Context: Catalog of MCP servers that enhance the development loop when used with Claude Code. Focuses on actively maintained servers useful for the plan/implement/verify cycle.

How MCP Works with Claude Code

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets Claude Code connect to external tools and data sources through a unified interface. Servers can be added at three scopes:

• Local (default) — private to the current project, stored in .claude/
• Project — committed to .mcp.json in the repo root, shared with team
• User — stored in ~/.claude.json, available across all projects

Adding a server

Official / Reference Servers

These are maintained by the MCP steering group in the modelcontextprotocol/servers repository. They demonstrate MCP features and SDK usage.

Note: Twelve previously maintained reference servers (including Brave Search, GitHub, PostgreSQL, SQLite, Google Drive, Puppeteer) were archived in 2025 and moved to servers-archived. Most have been superseded by vendor-maintained official servers.

AWS

All AWS servers support stdio transport.

Google Cloud

Google provides managed MCP endpoints for many services. See Supported Products for the full list.

Regional endpoints require replacing REGION in the URL (e.g., alloydb.us-central1.rep.googleapis.com/mcp). The gcloud MCP server is currently in preview.

The Semgrep plugin for Claude Code bundles the MCP server, hooks, and skills into a single install. It scans every file an agent generates using Semgrep Code, Supply Chain, and Secrets.

Snyk

This single command downloads the latest Snyk CLI, configures the MCP server, and installs security scanning directives into Claude Code's global rules.
